Module Outline
This module introduces students to the legal system of England and Wales as well as key legal skills. The module examines the various sources of law, the court structure and the different branches of the legal profession. Students will become familiar with key principles of statutory interpretation and the system of precedent within case law. Related to this, students will develop the ability to locate primary and secondary legal sources, interpret statutory provisions and identify the key components of decided cases.
Module learning outcomes
Demonstrate critical awareness of key sources, institutions and personnel of the English Legal System.
Deploy established techniques and a degree of originality to locate and interpret primary sources of law.
Demonstrate self-direction in devising and analysing legal arguments in relation to primary sources of law.
Initiate and manage strategies in the use of online legal research tools.
