Module Outline
This module explores the legal rules and principles related to the formation, enforcement and vitiation of contracts. In particular, students will consider offer and acceptance, the legal doctrine of consideration and the equitable doctrine of promissory estoppel. Students will consider different types of a contractual term, such as exemption clauses and implied terms, and will study damages and other remedies for a breach of contract. The module goes on to look at factors which may vitiate an agreement, such as misrepresentation, duress and undue influence. Students will have the opportunity to critically evaluate the circumstances under which agreements should become legally binding and enforceable, the role that consideration plays in England and Wales and the interaction of common-law and equitable principles.

Deploy originality in the application of relevant legal principles and appropriate commentary to hypothetical scenarios involving the formation, enforcement or vitiation of a contract
Display self-direction in the analysis of the statutory and common law rules of contract law, their context and any need for reform.
Devise and reflect upon ways of communicating complex legal arguments in relation to the formation, enforcement and vitiation of contracts
