Module Outline

The course provides an in-depth analysis of the contemporary operating environment in the field of international business. It offers an evaluation of the prevailing trends and the dynamic nature of international business activity along with the evolution of multinational enterprises. Furthermore, the course explores the significance of various factors, including formal and informal institutions, host and home country perspectives, ethical considerations, corporate social responsibility (CSR), and sustainability issues as they relate to the organisation and management of international business. Throughout the duration of the course emphasis is placed on comprehending the business environment within key global regions, with a specific focus on European Union, North America, East and SE Asia and the transition economies of East and Central Europe.

Module learning outcomes

Evaluate the key components and dynamic nature of the international business environment.

Recognise the impact of the host country’s formal and informal institutions on inward business activity and understand the significance of this activity for host and home nations.

Understand the theories and frameworks that explain Foreign Direct Investments by MNEs.

Evaluate critically the nature of international firms, their organisation, structure, and strategic concerns, including CSR and sustainability.
