Module Outline
This module is designed to allow students to gain practical work experience in an area relevant to
their degree. It takes the form of both in-class workshops and a sustained period of work
experience in Semester 1 Year 3. The module provides an opportunity to experience the practical
aspects of work, contribute to student’s personal development and to further develop employability
skills for their careers after university. Students will be expected to be proactive in finding their own
work experience, and must to do so to take this module. Assessment will consist of a reflective
essay and career portfolio.
Module learning outcomes
Develop skills in relation to employability which makes a clear link with career planning
Reflect critically on their professional skills development in relation to employability
Critically evaluate their own personal objectives for career and academic planning
Integrate academic knowledge and understanding with work experience
Use written communication to demonstrate a detailed understanding in appraising the knowledge gained during the work experience in a form that is accessible to the work experience provider
