Module Outline

This option provides an opportunity for students to carry out their own research project - working independently but with the help of a project tutor. In order to be accepted onto this option students produce a project outline by the end of their second year which needs to be approved by the module convenor. This many be linked to a period as an intern in the place of work (eg, in a local authority or at Westminster).

Module learning outcomes

Students will have acquired a rigorous understanding of the nature and scope of the topic at hand

They should have developed an appreciation of the current relevance of the topic

They should have developed IT skills involved in accessing materials on the world wide web where appropriate

They will have experience of conceiving and producing a substantial work of analysis and argument, presented in accordance with scholarly standard

They should achieve a relatively advanced level of analysis which goes well beyond that encountered in the media or lower level undergraduate work
