Module Outline
In this module you’ll acquire one of the basic philosophical skills: formal reasoning. The module is specifically designed to engage those who are already familiar with logic through maths or computer coding, while also enabling those less comfortable with formal systems to thrive both inside and outside of philosophy. You’ll develop your ability to analyse complex arguments in order to arrive at rational, evidence-based beliefs. You’ll learn how to construct reasoned arguments in order to make appropriate and well-informed decisions.
Module learning outcomes
Characterise and distinguish key logical concepts.
Be able to use truth tables.
Show familiarity with several argument forms.
Show familiarity and understanding of some important basic notions for the philosophy of language.
