Module Outline

This module covers the most important topics in corporate finance such as: capital investment, decision-taking, financing and capital structure, risk management and portfolio theory. It then turns to the analysis of issues in international finance including: models of exchange rates, foreign exchange markets, and international financial crises.

Module learning outcomes

A systematic understanding of the main techniques of business investment appraisal, including an appreciation of their limitations;

A critical understanding of the main methods of raising business finance from investors and the main theories concerning corporate capital structure;

Knowledge about how funds are returned to investors, especially the more problematic issue of determining rewards to shareholders via dividends, share repurchases and capital appreciation;

An understanding of the principal tools of corporate financial risk management, the circumstances in which they are used and when natural hedges apply.
