Module Outline

• Abelian groups, Lagrange’s theorem, homomorphisms.
• Generic finite groups, special subgroups (normal, centre), quotient groups.
• Rings, integral domains, Euclidean domains, fields.
• Homomorphisms, ideals, quotient rings. Polynomial rings as running examples.

Use a range of established techniques in order to solve problems in classical group theory;

Use a range of established techniques in order to solve problems in classical ring theory;

Undertake further training in Algebra and develop existing skills from Number Theory.
