Advanced Spectroscopy (860C1)
Advanced Spectroscopy
Module 860C1
Module details for 2024/25.
15 credits
FHEQ Level 7 (Masters)
Module Outline
This module explores the latest advances in Spectroscopy. It is based on recent developments in the subject, combining lectures and workshops, research talks, directed and independent reading and a critical work. Lectures will present current advances, with a focus on modern spectroscopic techniques for structure elucidation, investigation of molecular dynamics and ultra-sensitive detection and their application across chemistry, physics and biology. Workshops will provide a discussion forum for problem-solving activities.
Module learning outcomes
Have acquired an in-depth knowledge of a range of topics in advanced spectroscopic techniques and their applications
Demonstrate the capacity for a sustained critical investigation of a topic in the field of advanced spectroscopy and the ability to present this material to a professional audience
Formulate their own reasoned opinions in subject areas at the forefront of spectroscopy and, where appropriate, to propose new ideas from knowledge gained
Understand the principles and practice of advanced spectroscopic techniques and apply this knowledge to experimental design and data interpretation in a range of original problems
