Module N1581F

Module details for 2017/18.

30 credits

FHEQ Level 3 (sub-degree)

Module Outline

This module aims to introduce students to the role of business in society, encouraging them to understand the many different ways in which the needs and interests of the broader society intersect with, but also sometimes conflict with, the needs of business to profitably survive. The module will also introduce students to the basic ways in which business organisations work, including an overview of some of the basic functions that are performed, including accounting and finance, operations, marketing, and general management. Students will be provided with cases of different organisations that can allow them to begin to appreciate the different ways in which organisations operate but also the many different problems that they need to constantly overcome, given the changing societal context in which they operate. Students will be required to participate actively during sessions, either during discussions or by making presentations on particular topics, thus allowing them to develop transferable skills.
