Research

My research interests revolve around adaptive systems, real and artificial. This encompasses many overlapping areas including: artificial  life; evolutionary robotics; insect-inspired naviagtion; biorobotics; evolutionary systems, including theoretical and practical development of advanced evolutionary algorithms for hard engineering and design optimisation problems; development of biologically inspired artificial neural networks, including incorporation of diffusable modulators; computational neuroscience; creative systems, including the computer manipulation of sound and image; history and philosophy of AI and cybernetics; machine learning. Member of Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems () group, co-founder of Centre for Computational Neuroscience and Robotics ()
